About the Studio

The original art studio was established in Barnes, southwest London (England) in 1989 and relocated to Kingston upon Thames in 2005. This website was created in 1998 for the sole purpose of providing a regular update on recent work.

About the Artist: Gunter Pueschel

Having grown up in New York City I was inspired by 50/60s abstract expressionism and towering skyscrapers which led to qualifying as an architect based on a Bauhaus-type of university education emphasising crafts, fine arts and design. As a Brit living in London for 49 years I have been active as an artist for most of this time while attending further design courses in art, bookbinding and printing at the Putney School of Art & Design and City Lit, London.

About the Approach

My artwork comprises mostly acrylic media on canvas and paper, more recently incorporating the same into handmade concertina books (book art). My travels throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia inspired my paintings providing a visual catalogue of colours and shapes summarising the underlying atmosphere of the places I have seen. The current stage of my artwork is defined by the visual manipulation and interpretation of digitally mastered projects until a state of initial abstraction is achieved. Subsequently this state is then exploited through colour sketch overlays to provide the final version as the basis for transfer to canvas.
